5 Steps To Take Before You Buy

1. Why do you want to buy?

Are you running out of room in your home or have the kids left and you’re tired of cleaning such a big place? Whatever your situation, it is important that you decide to buy for the right reasons.

2. When is the right time to buy?

The best answer is when you’re ready. There are pros and cons to buying at any time of the year. If you are purchasing a home for yourself, then we believe there isn’t a bad time to purchase and get into the market.  If this is an investment purchase then there is more to consider.

3. "I really want an open concept layout"

Create a wants vs. needs list with anyone involved in the buying process. This is a great exercise to make sure that all parties are on the same page. Really think about the features that are important to you – location, size, number of bedrooms or bathrooms. Are you willing to compromise on any of your MUST HAVES if everything else was perfect?  

4. do you qualify for a mortgage?

Know your limits and what you can actually afford. Consult a mortgage broker or lender to verify what you qualify for and more importantly, what amount you are comfortable borrowing. This is particularly important in a fast moving market where homes are listed and sold in a day. 

5. should you hire a realtor?

Too many buyers are not educated before purchasing their home and this can lead to some very costly mistakes. Hiring an agent can save you money and make the buying process seamless. Before you hire a Realtor consider asking them these questions to help you make your decision.
